I am now storing for "someday" a 1967 MGB engine and transmission on a wooden
crate in my garage. I put rollers on the thing so I can move it about.
I intend to rebuild the engine before it's ever used, but I want to protect the
head and block from rust, etc. while in storage.
What precautions can I take to make sure things don't rust, etc. while the
engine is in storage?
One thing I did was to squirt some 80/90 wt gear oil into the spark plug holes
and turn the engine over by hand a bit to lubricate and prevent rust on the
walls of the cylinders.
Should I attempt to get under the engine / tranny to drain the oil? Should it
be stored with or without oil? Should I open it up and coat everything with
lithium grease? Other ideas?
Thanks for the advice,
Tony W
