Well I don't know about the UK but here in the USA we have no shortage of 
clueless drivers who are much more dangerous than speeders.
Now I'm willing to conceed that in the event of an accident higher speed will 
lesd to greater injury, but on a daily basis I see much more dangerous 
driving habits which the police tend to overlook.  Speeders are easier 
targets, and cops are lazy.  Besides it is an important source of revenue. 
 I wish the true priority were safety.
