Hi, all.
I spent some of the holiday time working on Rex, the '72BGT. Put in the new
axle, c/w new spring bushes, plates and rubbers, rear UJ, brake pipe, etc.
It's great to be able to drive without the howl of a pursuing duff diff.
I had to do a bit of work on the exhaust. Having knocked the cntre box off
the pipe 3 times, I got down and measured the ground clearance-3.1/8"! So, I
removed the Dolomite Sprint centre box and replaced it with a dinky little
flat can from a Renault Clio. The clearance is now 3.3/4", which is better
but not as good as the stock 4.1/2". The new front springs should help but
60-series tyres don't.
Fitted the mirrors today, at 9" from the door front edge and 1.1/2" down.
Strangely, the 7" and 7.5" measurements I was given would have let the
mirrors foul the 1/4 lights. Now I can see where I've been.
Also attached two BL Special Tuning window stickers I picked up at an
autojumble in the summer.
Next job: front springs, dampers, V8 bushes and disc shields.
All the best,
Dave.
