after my first few nasty experiences (and with decent regular maintenance) my

hasn't "broken down" for a long, long time. I sometimes break things while
thrashing the poor old beast on the race-track, but I reckon many newer cars
would have given up totally under the same treatment.
Sorry, but I get thorny when I see this perpetuated.

My experience is that breakdowns tend to cluster. Oh, sure, you'll have many
months, even years, of trouble-free motoring. But when the bad things begin
to happen, they happen in bunches. I hope you can continue to dodge this
curse.
