Frank,
The general consensus is no; the only way to test an
OD tranny is to drive the car.
The reason, as I understand it, is because the pump
cam
on the mainshaft needs to be turning at about 1000rpm
before the pump generates sufficient pressure to
engage (and hold) the OD in gear.
The long answer is that if you have the means to
support the transmission and spin the tailshaft to
at least 1000rpm, you ought to be able to test it
on the bench.
I've got the bits laying around the house to build the
test rig, a design on paper (and an OD tranny under
the workbench)! I just haven't taken the time put the
thing together.
