The +ve terminal on a 69 car *should* be the ignition terminal, not the
points terminal, so it will not be protecting the points. A noise
suppresion capacitor would be connected at that point, but should only be
about 1.0uF. I would disconnect it, and if no ill effects are noted,
discard it.
