My kit came with regular hydraulic shocks, none too beefy, either. But 
personally I think my B handles great. It's very well balanced, at least, 
even if it doesn't have that ultimate "go-kart" ride. Anyway, it's a 
misconception that the ride has to be extremely stiff and harsh for good 
handling (as opposed to maximum attainable G-force). In fact, in the real 
world (off the track, I mean), a super-stiff suspension is detrimental to 
keeping all four wheels on the ground, and it's pretty obvious that 4 
tires have more grip than 3 (or 2).

(Seriously, I have nothing against lowered, race-sprung, auto-x'ed MGs. 
Their drivers are welcome to rattle their teeth out on CalTrans' finest 
-- just don't give us grief for not joining them).
