I'd tend to agree with Kelvin on this one. These cars weren't built by
industrial robots. The assembly lines were at the mercy of the suppliers
(esp. the one that supplied Old Speckled Hen to the local pub), and the whims
of BMC and later British Leyland. Add to that the ever-changing US
regulations that everyone was scrambling to meet, and you have the setting
for somewhat less than consistent results coming out of the factory. The
color of your smog parts depended on who had the sprayer in his hand that day.
Who said that consistency is the hobgoblin of foolish minds?
