mga rear axle question

I had a guy press the rear axle into the new hubs.

1) He did not press one of them all the way in. It is about 1/16 to 1/8 of
an inch from the plug. Will this be a problem. Does the far end, the one
that goes into the rear end go into dead air space or does it butt up
against the idler arm in there?

2) He took out the end plugs. What size are these and can I get them local,
Do you think?

note: he had to cut the hubs off. He had many pounds of pressure and heat
applied and they would not budge
