I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A CLEAN & SOLID MGB/GT.
I AM OPEN TO YEAR--THE CONDITION AND HISTORY OF THE CAR IS MOST IMPORTANT
TO
ME. >>
Steve: Good Morning! We own and offer for sale to a good home our 1971 MGB
GT. I am the 2nd owner and have owned for 15 years. The original owner
purchased the car when he was a military pilot @ Cherry Point. He moved to
Charlotte to eventually become senior officer @ Nations Bank , (Then NCNB.)
I have all the original paperwork, including bill of sale, metal identoplate
and original literature and books and consumer information delivered with the
vehicle. I think I have every, yes every repair bill since the day it was
new. The car has been professionally maintained and repaired since new. NOS
or new replacement parts have been applied.
I have owned MG's, TR3, and Sunbeams since high school and I found out I am
not a mechanic. I have 2 great MG mechanics here who agreed to maintain the
car impecably. But they made me promise never to use a screwdriver on the
car exept to change a tire. The original tool kit is stored next to the
original spare tire. Even then, I was advised to call AAA.
The car is an excellent daily driver. I use it frequently now. In the past
year, we have driven it from Charlotte to Nashville and back, several times
from Charlotte to the beach and back, etc. For several years, the car was
used less than 500 miles a year as it was not practical for business travel
or car pool. Chldren are now grown and I've retired.
The car has 95K miles on the original engine which has been maintained as
required; for example refurbished head, valves, etc. The engine consistantly
holds 60# oil pressure at sustained highway speeds and 30 to 35# at warm
idle. Shifts smothly and stops reliably. It will cruise all day at
interstate speed limits, or slightly above.
The front seats, including webbing and padding have been refurbished with
like kind replacement, brakes incl master cyl have been replaced since last
year, years ago we had installed a hi pro oil cooler so the engine has never
run hot. The radiator has been replaced, too.
Car is original teal blue which is like a DUKE blue with autumn leaf (tan)
vinyl interior which is factory original. Exterior has been repainted in 92,
I think after the car got rear ended. At that time, the body was completely
stripped, all rust or signs of rust removed and replaced with metal. The car
is completely original, even to the British Leyland AM/FM radio.
No overdrive, and No air conditioning. (sorry)
As mentioned above, children are grown, I'm getting older, we are moving to
a smaller home at Isle of Palms (Charleston) which only has 2 car garage. I
don't want to leave the MG outside at ocean. Salt air is the enemy.
The car is in your price range and will serve you well. It has current
inspection, needs nothing. Where are you located? If interested, please
email or call me (Mel Frank) @ 704.364.1785
