MGF steps out
LONDON, 20 July 99: The shape remains the same, but the Rover MGF is about
to develop a rather nifty wheel-mounted gearchange system called
'Steptronic'.
Available as an option on the 1.8i model, MG's new Continuously Variable
Transmission (CVT) can be used as an automatic, a semi-automatic straight
line sequential shift, or a Formula one style, wheel mounted system.
It remains to be seen how easy it will be to reach the steering wheel button
shifters during tight corners, however.
Other changes include a windscreen surround which finally matches the car,
new alloy wheels, an adjustable steering wheel and new leather/cloth
combination interiors.
Prices are £18,270 for the 1.8i, £20,170 for the 1.8i Steptronic and £20,999
for the VVC.
The revised F goes on sale in August.
