Walt,
Some time in 1977, MG issued instructions for fitting overdrive wiring
protective cover. I'll copy it below as it's printed in Norman Nock's
Technical Talk
Overdrive and Trnasmission Control Spark Advance wiring at ger lever.
1. Raise the center arm rest and remove the screw securing the rear end
of the console to the tunnel
2. Remove the four screws to release the gear lever boot retainer, noting
that the front screw is shorter than the remaining three
3. Remove the screw and raise the rear end of the console to release the
boot.
4. Pull boot up to knob and check that:
a) Bullets are pushed fully into snap connectors on OD and TCSA so that
no part of the bullet is exposed,
b) OD and TCSA snap connectors are taped to gear lever (looks like the
tape is just under the knob and about 1 inch above the bottom of the
lever)
c) The wiring is not trapped, chafed or damaged where it runs down past
the gear lever housting to the junction with the OD switches.
5. Fit spirap (spiral wound cable wrap) over OD and TCSA cables where
these wires run between gearbox remote control housing and gearbox
tunnel, and be sure spirap is taped to gear lever just below the bullet
connections.
6. Check OD and TCSA wiring on gearbox from underside of vehicle. Ensure
that bullets are pushed fully into snap connectors.
