The term clutch judder usually refers to a rough, vibration that occurs when
you let the clutch out. It's often caused by oil on the linings, burned
linings, out of true pressure plate, or any number of things that make the
transition from a disengaged clutch to an engaged clutch a less than smooth
experience. If the vibration just occurs when the pedal is pressed in, I'd
say there's a serious problem with the throughout bearing or actuating fork.
The clutch takes up the incredible forces of taking a couple of thousand
pounds of inertia and turning it into a "symphony of motion." To do this,
everythings got to be very clean, smooth, in alignment, tight-fitting, and
with wearing surfaces that have lots of wear left. In any case, it sounds
like your brother needs to remove (or have removed) the tranny for a close
look at the clutch and its many wonderful aspects.
