Skye, I'm not much of a rallye guy, so I am probably qualified to give you
some unbiased opinions (what did he just say)??  I've done a couple and
here's what I would recommend.  Don't do it without a navigator, it may be
you're ultimate frustration, and is likely to be dangerous.  I would suggest
you find someone that has done a rallye before.  It doesn't have to be an
expert, just someone familiar with the protocol.  Probably not a good idea
to take your significant other unless you are VERY compatible.

Don't buy a rallye computer, wait to see if you like the sport, besides it
will put you in the computer class, guess who you will compete against?  The
experts.  Just use an old stop watch.  Oh, yeah; make sure your odometer and
speedometer works!  Better yet make sure it is accurate, or at least know
how to adjust it mathematically for "reality".

Many clubs do a "Newbe" rally, check to see if you can find one of those.
They may even have some "classes" to attend.

Most of all, get out and try one.  Don't worry about winning, just go out
and have fun.
