Hi there,
Well, I went to take a look at a restoration project A yesterday. He
wants $4000 CDN. Here's the scoop:
Plastic front left fender, plastic doors, plastic tailight plinth.
Everything below 6" from the bottom of the car is rotted and filled with
1/2" thick bondo. The door gap goes from 1/4" at the bottom to rubbing
at the top. No doubt the sills are gone. There's no hydraulic fluid in
either the brake or cluth systems. I couldn't get it to engage third.
The head is from a B. The dealer specializes in british cars and he
estimates about $8000 CDN for the body to be repaired properly. That's
too rich for my blood.
I think this is a dog. What do you think? Can you buy a brand new or
reconditioned body shell? If so, who sells them.
On the up side, it's confirmed that I want an A. It was, even in it's
sorry state, a beautiful car. My folks live in Carmel CA so I'm
thinking of having them keep an eye out for a cleaner bodied A. If any
one knows of one from anywhere near there, let me know (ie, Bay area,
Monterey, Santa Barbara....)
The quest continues.
Thanks.
Matt
