There are minor differences between the early 1498 and
1588 heads (see below) ... the 1498/1588 heads are
thought of as being the same ... as are the 1622/1800(early)
heads which have the larger combustion chamber.
Minor differences ... exhaust throat and intake port
diameters were increased during 1498 production ('57 if my
memory servers) ... the head then remained unchanged for
1588. The BMC Tuning Booklet outlines the "portin n
polishin" required to bring the early head up to the later
specs.
