Martin,
On my 77B, the top part just pulls off. I had to use a channel lock
(with no teeth) to grab it and work it off. There are no threads or
anything. It just pulls off. The switch is attached to the top piece.
If I remember correctly, you just disconnect the 2 wires and then
there are 2 little screws that hold the switch to the top part. I
reworked the switch and it worked for a while. I ended up buying a new
one from Moss and it has held up for a year or so.
Oh yeah, then if you want to take the whole shift knob off, there is a
nut inside after you get the top off that you have to undo and then the
knob comes off.
