Ooh, bummer... I can sympathize, I had a very messy bearing failure on my
watch. Hard to argue with his diagnosis without taking the head off, but
you might want to do that as a first step. It may affect your subsequent
strategy.
Definitely remove the bonnet -- no other way to do it. Protect the paint
on the wings and cowl with towels before removing the bolts. You'll want
an assistant for this.
Good luck.
Michael Jose had this to say:
>Well,
>here goes.
>My engine died. The MG Shop guy says that some pistons are toast, and
>most likely the head could be cracked. He doesn't want to rebuild it,
>but wants to sell me another rebuilt for (drum roll) $2000.00 That's US
>dollars.
>NO, I don't think that is what I want to do.
>So, I will be purchasing that engine Ray has for sale, and removing the
>old one for rebuilding (hopefully).
>What I am asking is for information and tips on the engine swap, and
>what do throw away, keep, etc.
>Should I remove bonnet? Should I do this, that, etc.?
>Any literature I should investigate?
>Thanks in advance...
