This adapter that allows the use of a spin on filter has a square shaped "O" ring seal to the block. If the attachment bolt has loosened, this seal may have been cracked or dislodged. Is your installation of the filter from the top or bottom?? I have had the seal stick from the spin on filter also. Also check your oil cooler lines, one should be attached to the filter adapter.
