I work for a major "corporate"-type ISP and internally,
administration-wise we run all Macintosh. Yes, it means we haven't been
touched by any recent virus scares. All our work is done via an
Intranet running generated HTML... so who cares what platform we use.
We also try not to run much in the way of MS products (i.e. Outlook) so
we didn't get hit by Melissa either.
I have fired up Virtual PC on my 400MHz G3 Mac (almost 200MB RAM) so now
I can get the blue screen of death as well as any one... a full licensed
copy of Windows98 comes with Virtual PC and runs as quickly and as well
as any Intel based machine that I have used - now *I* have to watch for
viri!
One of the systems guys was playing with a copy of FreeBSD that we are
installing on some specialist servers and wanted to see if I could run
it up under Virtual PC on the Mac... yep, sure can... here goes another
OS for my poor little desktop machine.
Now... I can get back to my original plan of installing the latest
Mac-flavour of LINUX!
By the way... there is a good reason for this! I am the Customer
Support Supervisor, which means it is my job to make every customer
think that they are happy. This means having at least SOME knowledge of
all the strange means they use to connect to us so I can get the wacko
questions that the "troops" can't answer.
Now, where are my Atari and Amiga (and Nintendo) emulators????
