With weather actually nearing 70 degrees (the warmest its been here so far
this year), I've been spending the weekend restoring the 67 BGT I acquired
last month.
The bumpers were missing the overriders, but the previous owner provided
the front overriders. I ordered the rear ones and received them from the
Proper MG a few days ago. However, I have several problems with the rear
ones. The one for the passenger rear does not fit - the Taiwanese made part
had the bolt bracket welded too high on the overrider, so it won't bolt to
the bumber (sits about a half inch or so too high).
The other problem is that both rear overriders have holes bored in them for
the license plate lights which came later in the MG production.
While I was trying to mount the defective overrider, I found that the front
overrider fit on the rear just fine and looked almost identical to the rear
overrider, except for the above mentioned holes. It appeared slightly wider
at the top though, and it also bore a "Made in Taiwan" sticker.
My question for those of you that have 67 or older Bs or BGTs - are the
front and rear overriders the same part?
Since I have to return at least one rear overrider back to the Proper MG,
I'm debating whether I should just exchange both of them for front overriders.
