Well, the flames have died down a bit. One thing can be certain - that no
matter what you say, someone will misconstrue it. I would suggest Nory's
response was the best one, and I'll include it at the end in case you didn't
see it.
There should be only one rule here, and that is to respect your other
listers, and referring to a recent thread, that includes your spouse. If
there were rules I wouldn't be trying to get my wife to get a fourth cat so
I have one for each wheel.

This is true and I, too, find it frustrating to see
the same subject come up every couple of months, but
in defense of those individuals asking the questions,
we must remember a few things....
1. Some people are not only new to the list, but also
new to these cars. You have people that, unwise it
may be, buy one of these cars without knowing anything
about them; people who (like myself, at first) buy one
because they like it, and really have no idea what
they're getting into.
2. Admittedly the Haynes manual is pretty cheap, and
most catalogs are free, but keep in mind that $40-45
for a Bentley manual is a significant purchase for
some people. This list is one of the few resources
some people may have.
3. There are times when the manual is not clear on a
subject, especially if you are new to auto
mechanics/maintenance; some manuals are written with
the assumption that the reader has SOME knowledge to
begin with, and that is not always the case.
4. Not every town, county, etc. has a local British
car club and the vast resources that come with one.
Without that club network, many people are unaware of
the resources (both on the internet and in the local
bookstore/library) that they can look to for help.
5. Sometimes you want/need a quick answer. I've seen
answers to questions come through the list within
minutes, when a search of three or four manuals may
have wasted one hour of precious daylight to work on
the car. Even some of us with all the manuals have
had occasion to do this, in an effort to save time.
It's easy for more knowledgeable listers to lose
patience with the less experienced, but we all have to
recall what it was like when we got our first LBC.
Don't mean to minimize anybodys pet peeve here but,
when you understand why these things happen, it's a
little easier to tolerate. Besides, my "delete" key
works just fine. (-;
