Amen Andy
I have met so many colorful personalities on the list, though I have never
actually met them. That's what it is all about!

|Of course if we followed all these rules we wouldn't have a list of any
|substance Now would we? Sometimes things don't apply to you at the time
|thus you ask the same questions later and now the list has even more
|experience to draw from. Just because one doesn't check mail on a
|regular basis why should we penalize the rest of the list? All the
|books, manuals, and websites in the world won't make up for
|Majordomo!!!!Gotta luv da list!!!!
|Just my 2sense.

|>I have seen many questions raised in
|>the list that are answered in one of
|>the above. We could have reduced those >148 pages
|down to a dozen.
|
|This is true and I, too, find it frustrating to see
|the same subject come up every couple of months, but
|in defense of those individuals asking the questions,
|we must remember a few things....
|
|1. Some people are not only new to the list, but also
|new to these cars. You have people that, unwise it
|may be, buy one of these cars without knowing anything
|about them; people who (like myself, at first) buy one
|because they like it, and really have no idea what
|they're getting into.
|
|2. Admittedly the Haynes manual is pretty cheap, and
|most catalogs are free, but keep in mind that $40-45
|for a Bentley manual is a significant purchase for
|some people. This list is one of the few resources
|some people may have.
|
|3. There are times when the manual is not clear on a
|subject, especially if you are new to auto
|mechanics/maintenance; some manuals are written with
|the assumption that the reader has SOME knowledge to
|begin with, and that is not always the case.
|
|4. Not every town, county, etc. has a local British
|car club and the vast resources that come with one.
|Without that club network, many people are unaware of
|the resources (both on the internet and in the local
|bookstore/library) that they can look to for help.
|
|5. Sometimes you want/need a quick answer. I've seen
|answers to questions come through the list within
|minutes, when a search of three or four manuals may
|have wasted one hour of precious daylight to work on
|the car. Even some of us with all the manuals have
|had occasion to do this, in an effort to save time.
|
|It's easy for more knowledgeable listers to lose
|patience with the less experienced, but we all have to
|recall what it was like when we got our first LBC.
|Don't mean to minimize anybodys pet peeve here but,
|when you understand why these things happen, it's a
|little easier to tolerate. Besides, my "delete" key
|works just fine. (-;
