that's how I do it. Other than maybe stretching the fan belt bit by bit...
I have never seen any problem with it.
I turn the alternator pulley and pull on a fan blade at the same time
to rock the cam back and forth until I see the valve is
in the proper postion. (neither cycl. valve moves when I move the
crank a few degrees)
