No these were all MKII's/BL's as far as I could see. I agree Eric, crazy
money. They made half a million of these things. I was just reporting to the
list for an FYI. Personally, my opinion only, I would never, ever buy a B
from a dealer, or any MG for that matter. They are way over priced. But that
is generally true of any second hand car dealer, it's much better to buy
private if you know what you're looking for. The price you paid for your B
is what I would expect for a average B needing work - in Sydney. I wouldn't
want to spend more than 15K on any std B in good nick. Maybe I'd think about
20K if the thing was totally concours. But thats just me, my opinion! My
friend bought a *very* nice Mk1 B couple of years ago for $14,500. I doubt
I'd get 15K for my GT even with it's 10K c.o.b glasurit paint job - new
brightwork etc, 4K motor (in progress), x$ suspension rebuilds etc! But I'm
a sceptic having no luck selling the car in the past (GT's are NOT popular),
and no I don't give a rats a** how much money I'd recover etc, I'm not in it
for that and never have been. Wouldn't sell it these days so it's a moot
point! I guess I'd give it to my son if I ever have one, like my Dad gave it
to me.

Hate to say it, but 5K doesn't buy you much unless you do the work yourself.
It all disappears in fees to mechanics, painters etc. One thing that makes
me happy in Aus, is that std parts are quite cheap, when you compare parts
for modern cars etc it looks good.

Never seen a B at that heady price! Must have been gorgeous, or platinum

Hmm.. I think you could get the B's I saw yesterday for at least 5-10K
cheaper privately. I'm not knocking the cars, they were very nice. Just
dealers have overheads etc. I wouldn't go to a dealer for a B simply because
there are so many B's in Sydney it would be a waste of time. Buy through the
car club is my advice. Enthusiasts selling to other enthusiasts. The best
scenario, you know you are selling to someone who will give a damn about the
car and generally you buy a car that's been well cared for. If you have lots
of disposable income, it's a different kettle of fish. Hell, the motor
rebuild I'm doing has almost cost me as much (well not quite) as the Healey
100 I picked up a couple of months ago in NY!!!! That Healey was cheap!
Back to the cars, I think the V8 they had at Nepean looked ok to me for the
price, but I don't know the details, I just had a quick look. I would be
prepared to spend 30K on a V8, but only if it was a) low mileage, b)
imacculate inside and out c) not restored.. Problem is, even though I'd
like a V8, I just couldn't do it, I'd have to go for the Twin cam. <G> A's
with those Dunlop drilled wheels, that gorgeous motor.. *sigh* :)) No I'm
not a hairdressor - shut up! <G>
