Mike,
  I didn't see your original posting, but from the subject description it
sounds like a problem I posted on the Triumph list. My TR4 had excessive
crankcase pressure. As it turned out my #2 cylinder has a bad ring. My
mechanic did a leak down test and found 80% of exhaust gas was going back into
the engine and not out the exhaust valve.
