Cheers Bob,

The car starts OK, it's just the clicking of the soleniod(?) which is a
little odd, there is lots of ooooomph when the starter motor engages. In the
next day or so I will clean all the connections and see! Unfortunately I
have to work all weekend and won't get a chance to fiddle until nex week:-(
The battery is new and the problem is more apparent during damp times
(suggesting a connection / earthing problem).

Many thanks

Hi Chris,
Sounds like the solenoid isn't getting enough power to turn it
over......OR.....the starter drive gear is stuck engaged (in the flywheel).
To check if the starter is engaged; put the car in 4th and try to push it a
few feet. If it still doesn't start, try to jump it or remove the starter
and
try to bench test it.

Don't neglect a bad connection or concact somewhere either. Check the
battery
terminals (how long have you had the battery). Check the grounds too.

Let me know how you make out.
