At the risk of raising this topic once more, I noticed an interesting OD note
in the March Classic Cars.
This was in relation to triumphs, but would apply equally to MGs. It is a kit
that costs 35 pounds and converts the OD so that when you move the gear lever
it will automatically shift out of OD. So from 3rd OD to 4th direct is just a
normal shift rather than playing with switches.
Thought it might be of some interest.
And by the way, cars used on highways with OD, do show less wear per mile and
eat less fuel. Amazing that some people think otherwise. (Sorry, couldn't
resist!)
