Word on the street is that Christian Stanton said:

Try jumpering the rheostat, but also take apart and clean it, I found mine
to be very corroded. I also fit uprated #50 Radio Shack bulbs and I can
keep the restored rheostat down almost all the way and the gauges are
wonderfully bright (the gauges that I repainted the inside gloss white,
that is).
I still need to find some stained glass paint for the bulbs to give the
tach/speedo the original blue hue. The blue plastic rings around the fuel
gauge and water/oil are old and cracked, I patched them together but is
there anywhere I can get 2 new ones?
