Bill.............
Your problem arises from your statement that "the right hand bolt hole of
part 19 acts as a spacer in the generator mounting bracket".
Actually, the bracket mounts under two of the water pump mounting bolts.
There were a few differences in this design over the years (which is why
there are more than one water pumps listed for smog-control-equipped MGBs).
If your bracket does not easily fit up to your water pump, perhaps you
bought the wrong one.

Subject: Dumb but understandable mistake (emission control equiped B's)
Hi Listers,
Been reassembling after replacing a water pump on a 76B with full
emission
controls and despite my disassembly drawings, I missed one.
There is a triangular Bracket (part #19, Moss catalog, p. 15) from
which the 'air pump adjusting Link' (part #18) attaches to the air pump. Now
the right hand bolt hole of part 19 acts as a spacer in the generator
mounting bracket,
but I cannot find, nor intuit, nor stare at the assembly and figure out
where the left hand bolt hole of part 19 attaches. A quick view of a similar
car would solve this, but the members's cars of the club I belong to have
all
removed this item.
The sad fact is that by this time next year, I, too, will have
removed much of the emissions in a carborator switch. But not yet...
Can someone with a stock emissions setup with a 75-80 B take a look and see
where the left extension of part 19 attaches to.
TIA,
Bill
