Read Barneys check list again....... read the Porter book and look
through whichever manual you decide upon; they all rationalize the
situation
You've already had some sound advice on freeing the rings and some of
what to do next - Where are you? - sounds like you need a bit of a second
opinion-
Most list members will pontificate in person for the price of a couple of
beers !
Dont get overwhelmed - like i said the other day - one job at a time and
you'll get there but forget the "getting out" of your money.....it jus'
don' work that way but you'll get more out of it than you can know now.
BTW - there are lots of perfectly good used engines around at very little
cost in case this one gets too scary!

Engines are available, and you can pick up a good rebuildable core for little
to nothing. Still, for me anyway this is a hobby. I do not play golf much,
bowl or other persuits. Well, OK, maybe I do go to the Zoo Bar for some blues
and beer every now and then. But when I do golf, I do not wonder if I will
come out on it financially. Same with my cars. They are for enjoyment, fun
and to avoid paying someone like me $50-$90 per hour to stay sane.
I would recommend you rebuild the engine. Have the machine shop do their
stuff, but put it togather following the directions in the book. You will
save a little, have fun, and the satisfaction of driving a car with an engine
you built is a nice thing.
