I work with elastomers pretty regularly, and according to my experience
and information from the manufacturers, nitrile (NBR) is typically rated
at 100-110 degrees celsius for continuous operation. At temperatures
significantly higher than that, it tends to harden and crack over time.
Polyacrylate (ACM) is generally rated at 150-160 degrees celsius and
Viton (FKM) is good for over 200 C. I'm not sure what tempertures the
engine components operate at, but I would be cautious about using
nitrile in areas that get hotter than 100 C. Anybody have any info on
what temps the various bits actually run at? Might be interesting to
look at.
