Another monkey wrench Gerry, On some US speed applications, such as a Doug Nash 5 speed, 5th is still 1:1, but 1 - 4 are lowered geared than a normal 4 speed. What this does is allow a higher rear end ratio such as a 3.00:1 as opposed to a 3.90, to give you low end take off plus high speed cruising at low rpm, but on the B and the midget this is not really applicable since there aren't any other economical rear end ratios available.
