The runner was Steve Prefontaine from Oregon. He was called "Pre" for short.

anybody ever see the movie about a distance runner from Oregon,
I think his name was Free?anyway he drove a chrome bumber roadster
in the film and the movie ended when he was forced off the road by a
truck
and crushed under his MGB.Car was yellow if I remember.
