I was just on the Advance Auto Parts web site (http://www.advance-auto.com) to
get the location of a store. They have no stores in the 215 area code area
(grammar?). The closest store to Phila. is in Lancaster, PA. It's not a bad
drive out there, so I ordered my brake master cylinder for the '77 Midget.
The cost is $87.00 plus a $25.00 core charge. I have the MC out, so I'll just
take it along. After the last few posts about rebuilding brake MCs, I figure
the rebuilt one is worth it.

The clerk was entering the info into the computer to look up the part. I said
"1977 MG Midget," and he asked back, "AMC?" I hope it was just a bad phone
connection! Anyway, they had the MC in the warehouse and will have it in the
store tomorrow. I have to work, so I will go out there on Saturday. Nice
drive in the country.

The web site had a press release that Advance had merged with Western Auto in
August. Western Auto is owned by Sears. Now, if they merge with Parts
America, it should make them a VERY large company.

That still doesn't change the fact that there are NO Advance Autos, Western
Autos, or Parts Americas near Philadelphia! I saw a new AutoZone being built
in Quakertown. That's still a 45 minute drive from my house. Nearest Parts
America is in Delaware. I guess Pep Boys has a monopoly in Phila. I wish
they carried a better line of parts and accessories. Every time I go into Pep
Boys, I feel like I have already bought everyhthing they have! If you don't
have a car that is less than 10 years old, forget Pep Boys. (Pep Boys says,
"Everything but gas!"...and anything I need!) I'll still buy fluids and stuff
there because they are convenient, but I'd like to spend my money with someone
who cares.

Anybody near Philly know of a large, well stocked auto parts store? Larry M.?
