No- not normal. The battery hold down is missing. It consists of an angle
bracket with a couple of holes and 2 "J" hooks. The angle bracket is placed
at the upper left corner of the battery while the "J" hooks go thru holes
at the lower right of the battery frame and hole in the angle bracket. Wing
nuts tighten the assembly and the battery is secured diagonally in the
holder. If you choose not to secure the battery it can eventually wear out
itself or the frame in which case you'll loose the acid or the whole
battery. Also it could bounce around and short out and cause a fire.
