I took a look at the alternator. It looks like the replacement
Lucas unit has a seperate sensing lead terminal. That is the small
terminal on it's own. There should be a yellow slip of paper in the box
that tells you to run a new 14 gauge wire from the sensing terminal to
the big + feed terminal on the starter solenoid. It looks like they are
using a new, more compact voltage regulator pack on the alternator, that
requires this external battery sensing feed for correct operation.
