As a chemist, I agree with previous postings, but must emphasize one thing I don't recall seeing: many halogenated hydrocarbons will attack active metals: aluminum and magnesium and zinc and most of their alloys. (especially methylene chloride, and especially when dry). Brief cleaning probably won't do much, but soak some scrap aluminum in some methylene chloride for a few days to see what I mean. Many carb parts are aluminum. |
