Easy to get started with fast driving, and you don't even have to be a
member. Just show up at any SCCA autocross event (known as Solo-II) with a
safe car (with seat belt) and a valid driver's license, and you're in.
Approved safety helmet is also required, but there may be loaners available
(call ahead to check). Event entry fee may be about $12-$25-US depending
on the local club. The event coordinators will guide you through
everything you need to get started.
SCCA also does Solo-I, faster driving with one car at a time, usually on an
open road race circuit, and also vintage racing and other classes of wheel
to wheel racing. There are also various forms of rally, from gimmick types
to east tour to brisk Time-Speed-Distance events. And if one was a real
glutton for punishment there is Pro Rally. Imagine racing flat out on
unknown back roads in the dark of night, even in bad weather or in the
snow. Or ice racing maybe?
