Hi Neil, Hoo boy! Sounds like "piston slap" to me. At least one compression ring broken and the slug is rattlin' around in the hole without the ring(s) to stabilize it. It's real noisy on a long-stroke engine. The recovery of pressure on the low cylinder is a dead give-away. If it makes you feel better, you didn't do it in with your carb adjustments.
