Gregg, all the literature says not to use the wrong parts together. As
Barney elsewhere commented, steel-on-steel would likely not be good for
wear, and brass on the rough, black surface surely wouldn't.

I have also been told (but have been unable to verify, not having suitable
measuring equipment) that the ramp angles are slightly different between the
two types. If this is true, then that is another reason the incorrect mixing
of parts causes shifting problems, rather than just premature wear.
