Hello all,
I'm trying to gather fluid for my MGB so I can have all new stuff in the
car when I take it on it's first real trip. Of course, I know that all this
information is in the owner's manual, but I don't have it here and I need to
get the fluid in advance. BTW, this is for an all-stock 1974 MGB.
Engine Oil: 20w50 - How many quarts?
Transmission Fluid: 20w50 - How many quarts?
*Questions: My tranny makes a very slight whine when in fourth gear.
Nothing else goes wrong, the car does not jump out of gear, grind, etc. Is
this normal? Any ideas of a good additive that might quiet this down, and
the cause of this noise? Also, where is the drain plug for the
transmission, assuming it has one?
Rear End: 90EP oil - Any brand names that everyone recommends? How many
quarts?
Shock absorbers: What does anyone recommend to fill the dampers with?
The engine and tranny oil will be castrol GTX, the oil filter will be
Deutsch, and the gear lube will be whatever is recommended.
The time has also come to replace the front bearings. Can anyone give me
any good advice about this? It seems that the procedure is pretty simple,
given what I've read in the Haynes manual. Something is mentioned about the
outer race, and to leave it in place unless it needs to be replaced. How
difficult is that job? More to the point, how hard will the bearings be to
replace and get absolutely right?
Thank you all very much!
