Gawd! What a mess I asked for when I started this!
We are so varied in our careers I nearly need to just say that I got ~220
responses from the MG and Spridget lists and we have ~220 careers. It is
not quite than bad. But nearly.
The easy stuff first:
Ages:
Averge: 41.5 (I like that I'll be 42 in December)
Minimum: 15
Maximum: 67
Median: 42 (What is the meaning of life? you ask?)
Not everybody gave their age. I had to agrue with a couple of persons of
the female persuasion to get theirs. (I won't name names as you know who
you are!!)
Now here is a basic summary: (these are grouped [lumped] as best as I
could)
The majority of responses are from people who work with computers in some
way (no big surprise here)
40 total (11 software devel, 6 Sysadmin 23 misc)
The next biggest category is:
Engineers 33 (10 mechanical, 3 electrical, 20 various others)
Students 17 (12 Graduate, 5 others inc HS)
Attornies 9 (various)
Insurance people 5
Retired from various careers 11
Then some interesting occupations:
2 Brit car restorers
1 Air Traffic Controller
2 Chemists
1 Cook
1 Critical Care Nurse
1 Housewife
1 International Banker
1 Cop
1 Police School Liason
1 Lifeguard
2 Psychologists
2 Social Workers
1 Cartographer
1 Pharmacist
1 Freight Trader
1 Paralegal
1 Roadside Assistant Technologist
2 Special Education Teachers
1 Biology Teacher
2 Wildlife Biologists
1 Housewife
2 Company Presidents
1 Marine
1 Army Captain
1 Helicopter Mechanic (in Hawaii)
1 Bartender
1 Tatoo Artist
1 Furniture Designer
1 Attendant BMIHT
Several in sales of some sort or another.
As you can see we are a widely diverse lot. The majority seem to be in a
technical field, but a rather large group is in some way helping others
(Medical, teaching, social services etc). About the only thing we don't
have is a politician, of course they may hve avoided the survey, ya know
plausible denial.
I have left some out as there are just too many. Sorry.
I will post the entire group of emails to a web page in a few days. First
I need to find out if anyone wants their names removed from the emails.
Other wise I will just post all of them as I got them. Not sure how but
perhaps as an ASCII file you can download and peruse at you leisure -
suggestions? Right now I have them in a FileMaker Database.
