Well ... unless I'm mistaken, Bill Schooler want to retains the 1588
engine ... but, from my perspective how far can you overbore the 3-main
'B' engine and retain a reasonabile degree of durablity for 'fast road'
use? ... +.060? ... +.080?
You can go .080 with no problems, and even more if you care to run a little
risk.
I won't tell you what size some of my engines end up......
Nothing wrong with the 1588, by the way, I raced with a basically stock one
for several years (being underpowered sure makes you learn to drive!) I also
broke a crank on one at Seattle, blowing out both sides of the block, ruining
the cam, distributor, head etc. etc. Sure scared the sh-t out of the
photographer standing at the corner (apparently it was pretty loud). I was too
busy myself to notice much. He took a shot of the car as it was just finishing
going from around 70 mph forwards to zero, pointing backwards on the side of
the track. I did manage to miss everyone else, though. Still have the photo
somewhere.
But that does explain why the early crank isn't my fave for racing. For the
street, it shouldn't be a problem.
