Well, we can start a real argument here, but I'll play turtle and stick
my neck out.
Yes there are. With modern tire construction/materials, the lateral grip
is enhanced greatly, when compared to the original 155/14's, plus you get
a bit more due to the wider contact patch.
Another real advantage is ease of replacement, VS. trying to find a 155
X14 tire.
Oh, for the record. My GT is running 195/60 x 14 Pirelli's. And no, they
don't rub anywhere, even on hard cornering.
