Chris,
I've got the same top on my 69 Beater - folds into the middle from the sides.
I've just always assumed that it was the right top frame for the car (or some
car anyway). But seeing that you've opened this topic up for discussion, I'd
be interested in hearing if anyone knows what tops go to what cars. As far as
I have observed, there are two types of top frames for the B roadster. The
first is the stow away and the second type is the folding. Within the folding
type I've seen the fold-into-the-middle type and the straight fold back type.
I believe the straight fold back type is for later cars (70 and above) while
the fold-into-the-middle type is for pre 70 models. Of course, my
observations could off, either partially or totally.

Subject: Top Frames...
I'm confused. So what's new about that, you ask??? <BG>
I just bought a new(used) top frame for my '72B. It looks just like the
one depicted in the Moss and VB catalogs. Upon removing the one
currently attached to my car, I discover a frame that doesn't resemble
any I've ever seen (I never really examined it before...)
When the old one folds, (if you can picture it from my poor
description), there is a section in the middle that folds in towards the
center of the car on each side, instead of going straight back like all
the other ones I've looked at recently.
It had the proper mounting configuration for the bolts though. Could it
have been an after-market top frame? If so, it was pretty poor. I
bought the other frame because I've never been happy with the
performance of my current one.
Any thoughts? (Not a problem, but it will probably drive me crazy until
I know the answer).
Thanks,
Chris
