Phil,
In response to your last post which I will not quote here because A) it
would get too long and B) clarity on what I am saying would probably
reduce its impact.
A) You are right, I would have driven the A today regardless. It is
wonderful around here right now. I am on the third week straight of all
top down daily driving. The first week the hood went up occasionally.
B) I have nothing against modifying cars. I like the A the way it is
however I did put in a very mild cam in it (but I'll deny this if I need to). I
have also considered Minilites, a front anti roll bar, and better electricals
at various times. At one time I was even entertaining the dreaded B into
A procedure but I don't know anyone who would put a newer, bigger
engine in one of these wonderful old cars ;-)
C) The A was built in mid summer 1960 if I remember the list of serial
numbers from MGA! correctly. It is actually a 1960 by serial number but is
registered as a '61. A little older but still of the same era, that's for sure.
D) By all means come on down! Maybe Phil and I will have a side curtain
grudge match going by the time that this is all said and done ;-) Then
again, we don't run in the same class do we since the A is stock (more or
less ;-)) See ya there!
BTW as Phil has pointed out, there are two picture of the A in action on
MAC's pages. The first one shows Phil Ethier giving me a ride around the
track. Notice the smoke from the rear wheel as we accelerate away
from the corner (just kidding- it's dust). The second picture is either Phil
or me- I would guess Phil since he puts the MAC web page together-
giving the one and only Barney Gaylord a slow tour of the course. Quite
a jaunty pose, don't you think? If interested, go to:

I whupped a Karman Ghia that weekend. Barney drove the A about 2
seconds faster than I did (60 second lap). Phil drove the A about 1
second faster than me. If you would like to drive the A faster than me
come on down!
The Spit shown has a Wankel in it and full independent rear suspension
much like the project car that Grassroots Motorsports has been working
on forever. It is a first class job with custom fuel injection and a custom
crossflow radiator, etc. A hot rod of the first order.
Regards.
