Chris,
Mike's solution is like trying to teach a pig to sing - it's a waste of your
time and it'll annoy the pig - in other words it won't work. But here's
something that will work - because you are such a great guy and sound like you
are in real need, I'll do you a really big favor and trade you your center
console with what the factory put in my 69. Believe me when I tell you that
it will not chaff, rub or otherwise cause you any discomfort - Heck - I'll
even go so far as to say that you'll think there's nothing there at all!!!!!
What's even better is that there is nothing to the installation!!! That's
right, you heard correctly - in fact you're just about done with the
installation once you have removed that ill-conceived thigh rubbing orthopedic
health hazard lump of plastic - the only thing left to do is drive an enjoy.
What more could you ask for????
Oh, BTW, when you send the center console will you send along the radio
console as well - I understand that the radio/center console for 77 is a
matching set and there's no sense in breaking it up!!
Always glad to help,
Dr. Doug

Subject: Re: Center console question
I find that the center console fitted to my 77B causes considerable
discomfort due to the hard plastic and sharp edges. These tend to hit me in
the thigh.
I have a 400 mile (one way) drive to make in a couple of weeks. Anyone have
a similar problem? Anyone found a solution? I have seen Mike Satur offers
leather/walnut consoles to match his dash boards. I know Ian Pender
distributes Satur's stuff. Does Ian have a website? ANyone know the URL?
Chris
Chris,
I had a similar problem, though not in a 'B. Try to find some
black vinyl at your local fabric store and some thin foam padding.
Contact cement them to the edges of your console where it meets your
thigh. It won't be an obvious change to the car unless you're judged
for concourse quality, but it should help to ease your pain...
