Thanks for the clear and concise discourse pollution control methods.
Personally, I'd go for a clean-running EFI/Cat retrofit for my B if it
was affordable and the Cat didn't decrease the ground clearance. I
truly believe that one of the reasons my `76 280Z ran so well was that
the FI was superior to the SU-clone carbs on the `73 Z that I had
before.
As for the "free to pollute" queation: My car has been desmogged (no
air pump, earlier head). That's the way it was when I bought it. I
assuage my guilt by believing that it's one of very few left running in
comparison to the total # of other cars on the road. However, if I had
owned the car when it had the smog equipment, it would still be on
there.
