Philippe,
Quoting from Anders Clausager's "Original MG T Series": Feedback from the
important American market led to Abingdon incorporating the following
alterations in export cars for the USA which were then recognised under the
coding "EX-U" stamped with the chassis number on the guarantee plate: Full
width bumpers front and rear with overriders, and a central MG medallion to the
rear bumper. Badge bar, fog lamp and external horn deleted. Two Lucas
windtone horns, WT614 and WT615, mounted under the bonnet. Steering wheel in
gold pearl finish instead of black. Rear number plate mounted centrally above
rear bumper with Lucas number plate lamp above it. Flashing indicator lamps
incorporated in the sidelamps. Laminated instead of toughened windscreen glass.
No "Thirtilite", but two map reading lamps. Flashing direction indicators
fitted on cars to North American specification. Wiper motor moved ot centre of
the windscreen frame. High beam warning lamp in place of fog lamp switch.
The fully-fledged "EX-U" model came into being only in December 1948, from
chassis number TC/7380, and only 494 such cars were made before the end of TC
production."
Does that help?
